Measurement of hearing is called audiometry. This term refers to the testing process that quantifies how well a person can hear across a range of frequencies and intensities, typically by determining the softest sounds a person can hear at each frequency. The test is performed with an audiometer, which delivers tones and records responses; the results are plotted on an audiogram. The instrument itself is the audiometer, not the measurement, and the audiogram is the graphical record of the results. Auditory describes anything related to hearing but does not denote the measurement itself.
